WHY RIDE?

We can either swallow down difficult feelings or do something.  Rod Everingham has been a builder all his life so action is his natural reaction to life’s ups and downs.  And Patto’s untimely death saw Rod spiral down into the pit of despair.  He had to claw his way back to a world without his grandson.

That’s when the idea of a fundraising bike ride was born.  In September 2014 family and friends rode up the incredibly steep and winding Great Dividing Range from Wauchope (where the Everinghams live) to Manilla and the dairy farm where Patto lived with his family.  In 2015 they reversed the route (although Rod insists there are still some unrelenting inclines on the way down the mountain!).  Together those rides and valiant riders raised almost $100,000.

So Rod has form. Cycling challenges give him a reason to get up in the morning, get on his bike and keep fit.

And he can feel that little Angel on his shoulder urging him on.

This time Rod is supported by his nephew, David Everingham, and niece Tracy Bradford as they take 14 days to ride 1400 kilometers from Cameron Corner (where NSW, QLD and SA  meet) all the way to Wauchope – the heart of the Hastings Hinterland.

Do you want to get involved?  Help with logistics?  Ride all or part of the route?

Or support this marathon effort with some dollars to two incredible organisations, helping children and families through heartbreak every single day.
